Sweden awards contract for double-track section on West Coast Line

Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket, awarded Skanska a SEK 1.7 billion (EUR 156 million) contract for the construction of a double-track on the West Coast Line.

Under the project, Skanska will construct a 24-km double-track section on the railway line linking Ängelholm and Maria stations, in northern Helsingborg. The contract includes 19 new railway bridges and two road bridges.

In addition, 7 level crossings will be replaced by new level crossings for increased security and the several stations will be reconstructed. New switches, contact lines and signalling systems will also be installed.
Preparatory work will commence this autumn and the new double-track is expected to be in use during the latter part of 2023. The project will be completed in May 2024.

The 290 km West Coast Line is one of the most important railways in Sweden connecting Gothenburg and Copenhagen. The authorities are construction implementing double-tracking and upgrade works to increase the capacity which will further increase the frequency of services for both passenger and freight trains.
