Manchester may receive EIB loan for the new tram line

Transport for Greatest Manchester may receive a EIB financing for the extension of Metrolink tram network. The total value of the project is EUR 418 million and the EIB proposed finance is EUR 188 million.
The project consists of the extension of the Metrolink tram network with a 5.5-km new line from Pomona to the Trafford Centre with 6 new stops, and the purchase of 10 additional tram vehicles.
The new line will run through Trafford Park, Europe’s largest trading estate and home to more than 1,400 businesses employing over 33,000 people at Trafford Centre. Construction work began in late 2016 and services are expected to launch in 2020. Services will run running through Manchester city centre to an improved stop at Crumpsall.
At the beginning of this year, the authority marked a major milestone for the Trafford Park Line scheme as the first piece of track was laid at Parkway Circle.
In 2014, under an agreement signed between Greater Manchester leaders and central government, GBP 350 million was provided for this new line.
