CRRC delivers two more diesel locomotives to Nigeria

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari cut the ribbon for the two new diesel locomotives and 7 coaches delivered by CRRC Dalian. They will be put into commercial operation on the railway line linking the capital Abuja with northern city of Kaduna. The CDD3B1 locomotives can run at speeds of 150km/h on the 186.5 km, the Abuja-Kaduna railway, opened in 2016. According to the agreement between the sides, CRRC will provide additional locomotives for the line, depending on demanding.
These two standard-gauge locomotives can operate under an extreme weather and environment in Africa, such as the storm and extreme humidity in the rainy season and the drought, dust and high temperature in the dry season.
“The Abuja-Kaduna railway has become the most prioritized transport mode among local communities. We hope that all the major cities in Nigeria could be connected by rail in the future 25 years. The partnership with Chinese companies was indispensable to the railway construction and that is expected to strengthen railway cooperation and technology sharing with China.
At the beginning of 2017, CRRC Dalian delivered the first two type CDD3B1 passenger diesel locomotives to Nigeria, for the Abuja — Kaduna railway line.
