Croatia: EU to finance the reconstruction of Dugo Selo – Krizevci railway line

croatiaCroatia’s Minister of Transport, Hajdas Doncic, announced that the European Commission would be making a decision soon about granting EUR 163 million to reconstruct the Dugo Selo – Krizevci railway line which will be the first decision of that nature since Croatia joined the EU.
The reconstruction should start later in the spring or early summer if the schedule for the public procurement is adhered to.
The value of Dugo Selo – Krizevci railway project is estimated at EUR 198 million, and the EU could finance it through European Regional Development Fund.
The project is part of a major plan to establish a double-track railway line of high efficiency for mixed traffic on the entire Mediterranean Corridor, which connects the Iberian Peninsula, through the sea port of Rijeka, Zagreb and Budapest to the Hungarian-Ukrainian border.
The project involves the construction of a second track along the entire section with a total length of 38.2 kilometres, construction of 17 new railroad and two pedestrian crossings, construction of 11 new overpasses, one pedestrian and six traffic underpasses, modernization of signaling, security and telecommunication devices and the construction of 37 kilometers of service roads along the track.
