The Community of Madrid has announced a EUR 57 million investment in maintaining the Metro’s tracks, covering nearly 300 kilometres of the network, including its depots. The initiative aims to ensure the safe and efficient operation of trains and forms part of Metro de Madrid’s broader infrastructure upkeep strategy.
The Madrid Metro has launched a public tender process for the contracts, which will run for four years from the date of award. The project will focus on preserving track infrastructure and drainage systems, with the objective of maintaining high levels of reliability across the network.
To avoid disruption to passengers, the maintenance work will primarily be scheduled during night hours. This approach aligns with the Metro’s ongoing commitment to delivering consistent service to the more than 715 million passengers who used the system in 2024.
Infrastructure upkeep remains a top priority for Metro de Madrid, as it plays a crucial role in minimising operational incidents and improving passenger experience.
The new contracts will also help centralise maintenance operations, improving resource management and enhancing the mobility of teams and maintenance vehicles. The scope of the work includes the upkeep of tunnels, auxiliary installations, and major station structures.
