Thailand gives green light to Chira-Khon Kaen railway project

04_thailandaThe Thai Cabinet approved the metre-gauge dual-track rail route from Chira junction in Nakhon Ratchasima to Khon Kaen. The Cabinet has already instructed the ministry to commence with the investment plan. The project is part of the Transport Ministry’s infrastructure development scheme that starts this year.
The 187km Chira-Khon Kaen railway line is expected to cost Bt26 billion (683.5 million euros) to build. Construction is expected to commence by the middle of this year, with operations starting by 2018. The line passed its environment impact assessment last year.
