Sofia selects Line 3 metro section designer

Sofia’s metro operator, Metropolitan EAD, selected Sweco Energoproekt to design 5.6 km section on Line 3, linking the central with eastern parts of the capital. The contract signed between the two companies is valuated at EUR 490 thousand.
Within the tender procedure, Metropolitan has received nine offers.
The 5.6 km section will have 6 stations and will provide the connection between the center of the city and eastern Slatina district.
In June, the European Investment Bank announced the evaluation of a EUR 22 million co-financing for the second stage of Line 3, which envisages the construction of a 3.8-km double track and 4 stations, including a stop for the connection to the railway network.
Offering east-west connection, the Line 3 will have a total length of 18 km with 19 stations bringing the total length of Sofia’s metro network to 56 km of lines and 53 stations by 2020.
In addition, for this line, Sofia should soon receive the first new metro train, produced by Siemens- Newag consortium and delivered at the end of June. Line 3 will be served by 20 Inspiro trains and the contract includes an option for additional 10 metro trains.
