SKM Warszawa will organise a tender for the purchase of 21 EMUs

Rapid regional rail transport operator SKM Warszawa announced it will organise, in a first stage, a tender for the purchase of 13 new EMUs (8 five-cars EMUs and 5 four-cars EMUs). The tender includes an option for the additional purchase of 8 new EMUs, four years after the signing of the first stage purchase contract. This will also includes that the winner will perform the maintenance of the 13 EMUs for a period of 15 years and will offer the necessary training of SKM Warszawa train drivers.

The best offer will be selected considering:

-price and maintenance (78%)

-warranty period of new EMUs, between 48 and 96 months (15%)

-delivery of the first batch of 3 EMUs in maximum 18 months after the contract is signed (4%)

-length of the interior of passenger cars (5%)

According to SKM Warszawa (Spółka Szybka Kolej Miejska), the option of purchasing an additional batch of 8 new EMUs requires the delivery of 7 five-cars EMUs and 1 four-cars EMU.

Rolling stock manufactures interested in the tender can submitt their offers until November 30.

SKM Warszawa runs a 28 EMUs fleet, purchased from Polish rolling stock producers PESA Bydgoszcz and Newag. The rail transport operator covers regional passenger services on three sections of the Polish rail network, in Warsaw metropolitan area.

The decision of supplementing the rolling stock fleet is reasoned by the intention of extending the regional rail services offer towards Piaseczno and Ożarow Maz. Annually, SKM Warszawa carries a total of 25 million passengers.

SKM Warszawa runs on a few rail sections within Warsaw, thus, tram tickets are also available for SKM Warszawa services on these urban rail sections. However, travel tickets issued by Mazovian Railways, PKP Intercity or any other regional rail transport operator are not available on SKM Warszawa trains.
