Ukrzaliznytsia repaired 7,000 freight cars

Ukrzaliznytsia facilitiesSince the beginning of this year, 7,088 freight railcars have been repaired at Ukrzaliznytsia facilities, the company reports. In particular, capital repairs were performed for 2,002 wagons and 5,086 were overhauled.

During January – April 2024 the company repaired semi-wagons, special rolling stock, freight railcars for construction materials and tank cars.

In addition to its own freight rolling stock, Ukrzaliznytsia also ensures repair and overhaul activities for the rolling stock of private owners. Thus, since the beginning of the year, 2,900 freight cars owned by Ukrzaliznytsia and almost 3,400 wagons owned by private owners have been repaired.

In total until the end of this year, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to repair 19,000 freight cars. In 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia facilities repaired 9,051 freight cars owned by the company.

In January – April 2024 Ukrzaliznytsia has transported a record amount of cargo for export since the full-scale invasion.For example, in the first four months of this year, the company transported 30.4 million tonnes of freight for export activities. This is 48.8% more than the same period last year.

“In 2024, one of our priorities is to increase the volume of cargo transport, in particular exports, which are extremely important for the state’s economy. Despite the fact that the enemy intensified its attacks on the railway infrastructure, according to the results of the work during the last four months, we have a record number of transported goods in this connection. The work of each railway worker, which helped to obtain this result, is an important contribution to the stability of our state,” sid Yevhen Lyashchenko, the Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, said.

The main cargoes exported by rail in the first four months of 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 12.9 million tonnes of grain, followed by 12.5 million tonnes of iron and manganese ore, 1.6 million tonnes of ferrous metals and 867,000 of construction materials.

In total, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 59.9 million tonnes of cargo in January – April 2024, which is 28.7% more than in the same period last year.
