Second phase for Belgrade station reconstruction to start in 2018

The second phase of the reconstruction of Prokop railway station (Belgrade Center station) is expected to start in April 2018 and to last one year, according to Serbia’s Infrastructure Minister Zorana Mihajlovic. The Serbian government is currently negotiating with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to obtain financing of 35 million euros for the second phase. “We are in talks with the Kuwaiti fund which financed the first phase of the Prokop project and we expect to sign agreements for the second phase soon,” Zorana Mihajlovic said.
In October, the Infrastructure Ministry said that the KFAED was ready to provide funding for the second phase of the project. KFAED participated in the first phase of the project and considers that Serbia is one of its best partners globally, the Infrastructure Ministry said. The first phase of the reconstruction of the railway station was carried out by Energoprojekt and was completed in January 2016.
