Astra Vagoane Calatori wins local tram contract

The Municipality of Oradea and Astra Vagoane Calatori signed the contract for the delivery of 10 new trams. The vehicles will be designed specifically for Oradea and the contract amounts to EUR 19 million. Non-reimbursable funds cover 98% of the investment or RON 87 million.
The announcement was made by Oradea Municipality and, according to it, the contract was signed for the sum covered by European funds.
“The objective of this contract was the procurement of 10 new energy-efficient trams, with 160 seats each, fitted with energy recovery systems, air-conditioning, as well as space for disabled passengers”, said Oradea Municipality.
The contract carried out through the Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020 was also signed by the Romanian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration, but also the North-West Regional Development Agency.
“The modernisation of the tram fleet is a very important project which, next to that on the extension of the network with a new tram line to connect Nufarul district to Calea Aradului, will provide an improved operation for Oradea public transport”, declared Mayor Ilie Bolojan.
According to the contract signed with Arad rolling stock manufacturer, the first four trams will be delivered in October 2019 and the other six in 2020.
The municipality also announced that the financing contract on the modernisation of Oradea tram fleet, phase II, which envisages the procurement of another 10 trams, is in the pre-contracting phase. The money would be allocated through the Regional Operational Programme (POR) 2014-2020, Priority Axis 4 – “Supporting urban development”, Investment Priority 4.1, Sustainable Urban Mobility. The cost of the second phase is similar to that of the first, over RON 88 million, of which non-reimbursable funds amount to 98%.
