Poland launches electrification tender under Bydgoszcz – Tricity project

pkp plk mapPKP Polish Railway Lines announced the tender for the development of the project documentation for railway sections on three mainlines: No.201 line (Kościerzyna-Gdynia), 214 (Somonino-Kartuzy) and 229 (Glincz-Kartuzy). The tender is part of the work on alternative transport route from Bydgoszcz to Tricity project, valuated at PLN 1.6 billion (EUR 365 million).
The documentation envisages the railways between Kaszuba (Pomeranian Voivodeship, in northern Poland) and Tri-City.
The project involves the electrification of 80 km on Kaszuba railway, the construction of 50 km of second track between Kościerzyna and Gdańsk (on the three mainlines) and the modernisation of 134 km of railways. Under the electrification project, the company will modernise the traffic control devices and will build local traffic control center in Kościerzyna.
As part of the project, the company will assess the construction of the third track on Osowa Gdańsk – Gdynia section that is dedicated for freight transport. The project will have a positive impact on rail access to the port of Gdynia. Improving the technical parameters, capacity and electrification of railway lines will allow to target the vast majority of trains serving the port of Gdynia bypassing trafficked line sections 202 (Gdańsk – Gdynia) and 009 (Tczew – Gdańsk).
The design work will be implemented in 2017-2019, while the construction works will last from 2020 to 2022. The project co-financd by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020.
