Poland joins Trans-Caspian International Transport Route

pkp-lhs_locomotivePoland’s railway operator PKP LHS PKP Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa (PKP LHS) has become a member of of the Coordination Committee of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TCITR), Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping announced, Trend reports.
“The creation of a union of legal entities of the Coordination Committee, the signing of the agreement on the establishment of the committee, the approval of the charter of the legal entities’ union, its registration in the state structures were discussed and the relevant decisions were made during the meeting, organized by Kazakhstan Railways.”
As a result of the discussions, Poland’s PKP LHS was unanimously adopted to the membership of the TCITR Coordination Committee.
The agreement to create the Trans-Caspian International Transportation Consortium was signed in April in Baku by the railway authorities of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan.
The activity of PKP LHS is concentrated in the south-east part of Poland and has a regional character. It offers comprehensive freight forwarding and logistics services based on the door to door principle as well as freight transport without the need to reload it at the Ukrainian border and with the ability to pull heavy unit trains.
With its track gauge of 1,520 mm, railway line no. 65 is the longest broad-gauge line in Poland used for transporting goods. It connects the Polish-Ukrainian railway border crossing Hrubieszów/Izow with Silesia, and precisely with Sławków in the Dąbrowski Basin, situated 25 km from Katowice. Line no. 65 runs through five voivoideships: Lubelskie, Podkarpackie, Świętokrzyskie, Małopolskie and Śląskie.
The railway line includes 10 stations, 13 passing loops and points for cargo handling: terminals, ramps and handling yards, warehouses, bonded warehouses and weighbridges.
