New contract signed for railway modernisation in Poland

Polish rail infrastructure manager PKP PLK and Torpol signed a PLN 190 million (EUR 44.5 million) contract for the modernisation of 40 km line from Legnica to Rudna Gwizdanów. The contract includes works on tracks, bridges, viaducts and traction system, and the renovation of 9 railway stations and stops and the construction of a new stop in Lubin that will be situated at 1.5 km from Lubin Górniczy station.
The total value of the project is PLN 196 million (EUR 45.9 million), of which PLN 130.57 million (EUR 30.57 million) are covered by the EU’s co-financing. The projectis estimated to be completed in 2019.
“Signing the contract on Legnica-Rudna Gwizdanów section is an important step for the improvement of rail transport services in Lower Silesia Voivodeship. Thanks to investments, passenger trains will connect the most important cities of the Copper Basin region – Glogow, Lubin and Legnica. The project will increase the accessibility to railway transport and will contribute to the economic development of the region,” Paweł Hreniak, the Lower Silesia Governor said.
The Legnica – Rudna Gwizdanów section is part of Lower Silesian railway network and is a link between E 30 line (running from the western border through Węgliniec – Legnica – Wroclaw to Przemyśl) and E 273 line (so called Nadodrzanka, connecting Wroclaw – Głogów – Zielona Góra – Szczecin). Currently, only freight trains are running on this railway section.
