Mongolia receives all locomotives from Russia

locomotive delivery contractTransmashholding has completed the locomotive delivery contract signed with Ulan Bator Railway in 2019 for 24 vehicles.

The Russian rolling stock manufacturer has shipped four Class 2TE25K2M mainline freight diesel locomotives in December and three Class TEM18DM shunting diesel locomotives in November.

Both types of vehicles boast an excellent reliability, efficiency, and availability record, as well as positive feedback on comfort and maintainability from their crews.

The locomotives were designed with the harsh climate conditions in mind and were ready for the high dust level and temperature drops, typical for Mongolia. The locomotives’ modern microprocessor systems continuously adjust the load on the diesel-generators and monitor the condition of accessories, which increases safety and efficiency.

The locomotive delivery contract with Ulan Bator Railway  included the design and supply of 10 shunting and 14 mainline locomotives of which two Class TEM18DM shipped in 2021 were adapted for 1435 mm rail gauge.

TMH is the only developer and manufacturer of locomotives of all types, purposes, power, and currency in Russia. The development is led by its subsidiary TMH Engineering.

The TE25K3M freight diesel locomotive is designed to haul heavy freight trains ensuring constant horsepower regardless of any external factors. The vehicles are equipped with a modified 18-9DG diesel-generator set with increased power of 2,850 kW and have an increased engine power factor used for traction. They are designed with increased locomotive axle load and increased continuous speed up to 25.4 km/h.

TMH is manufacturing the TEM18DM diesel shunting locomotive since 2008 and they are operating on the Mongolian railway network since 2011 showing a respectable track record for their ease of operation, serviceability, drivers’ crew comfort, and affordable price. TEM18DM are in demand at public railways as well as at industrial railway operators, where companies operate their private fleets. To broaden the scope of applications for this machine, the factory extended its product line, which now consists of 6 modifications for the customers to choose from.

In addition to Class 2TE25K2M and Class TEM18DM, TMH also produces Class 2TE25KM and Class 3TE25K2M. The lineup of diesel locomotives is in high demand on the rail mainlines as well as at industrial enterprises with a rail fleet. These locomotives service railways and companies in Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Belarus – increasing the amount of transported cargo while decreasing operational costs.
