In January-October 2014, the volume of cargo transported by rail has slightly increased in Lithuania. According to the data of Statistics Lithuania, 40.7 million tonnes of cargo were carried by rail in the first ten months. The increase year-on-year amounted to 2.1%. Domestic rail freight transport accounted for 12 million tonnes, by 7.1% less than in 2013, whereas international rail freight transport accounted for 28.7 million tonnes, by 6.4% more than in 2013.
