Construction for the first section of Moscow-Kazan HSL could begin in 2018

Russian Railways (RZD) announced they are ready to start construction works for the first section of  Moscow-Kazan high-speed line in the first half of 2018. This first section is comprised between the capital city Moscow and Vladimir, and the distance covers 180 kilometers.

„We have prepared the financial model for managing the construction site. It was sent to the Ministry of Transport and then to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development, these are the three Ministries that have to give their approval for this project. The financial model, once approved by the Ministries, will be sent, by them, to the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Arkady Dvorkovich, for his final approval. Thus, we estimate that we could begin construction works for the first section of the high speed line in the first half of 2018,” Prime Vice-President of the Russian Railways. Alexander Misharin, said.

According to preliminary plans made by RZD, the completion of the Moscow-Vladimir section could take place in 2023 while the entire Moscow-Kazan high-speed line could be completed in 2025.

The estimated cost of the Moscow-Kazan line, with a length of 772 kilometers, amounts to RUB 1.3 trillion (USD 22.4 billion) and Russia intends to modernize its connectivity across its vast territory. A total of 14 railway stations will be built along the line.

With regard to the rolling stock, Misharin said it will be built in Russia, and Sinara, Siemens and CRRC companies are working on the train project and should launch the construction of the new trains at Sinara’s production facilities.

We remind that at the beginning of 2016, the Russian Government approved the program for the supply of rolling stock for the Moscow-Kazan high-speed line. Under the program, rolling stock production will be launched in December 2019.
