Construction begins on Hurstbridge Line upgrade

Work has begun to remove two dangerous and congested level crossings duplicate the track and run more trains, more often on the Hurstbridge line, a Melbourne suburban railway.
The second track will remove the notorious section of single track between Heidelberg and Rosanna that causes delays and stops new services being added to the busy line.
Under the project will also be removed two dangerous and congested level crossings – at Grange Road in Alphington and Lower Plenty Road in Rosanna – and build a brand new Rosanna Station.
The USD 303 million project will be completed by 2019.
“We’re delivering more frequent and reliable trains right along the Hurstbridge line and work starts now. Dangerous and congested level crossings and sections of single-track don’t belong on a modern train network. They’re relics of the past and we’re getting rid of them,” Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan said.
