Ankara opened new metro line M4

ankara-metrou-m4_14009The fourth metro line in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, was inaugurated in January in the presence of the Turkish President, president of Turkey  Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister, Binali Yıldırım, Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications,  Ahmet Arslan, and Ankara’s mayor, Melih Gökçek. Services are operated, at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, by a fleet of 750V dc third-rail trains built by CRRC Zhuzhou at its plant in Sincan, near Ankara.

The 10.6km Line M4, with 11-station, operates north from Kizilay, an interchange with the Ankaray light rail and metro lines M1 and M2 to Gazino. However, the 1.4km section between Kizilay and Atatürk Cultural Centre is not yet operational. The line will carry from 50,000 passengers an hour and 800,000 passengers per day, the authorities in Ankara estimate.

The cost of the project is estimated at TRY 1 billion (USD 330 miilion).
