DB to purchase 17 Stadler EMUs from Westbahn

Deutsche Bahn signed an agreement for the procurement of 17 Kiss double-deck EMUs from the Austrian rail operator Westbahn. Most of the vehicles are only two years old and have achieved the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
In December, DB will receive the first 9 trains and will use them as Intercity 2 on the new Dresden – Berlin – Oranienburg – Rostock route as soon as the required test and training trips are completed. Starting 2020, the trains will run every two hours per day and direction on the line.
“With the purchase of trains from the Westbahn, we are expanding the available space for our customers by almost 7,000 seats. The trains are in excellent condition and mean comfort and reliability for our customers,” Berthold Huber, DB Board Member for Passenger Transport, said.
The high-quality Stadler trains are running at up to 200 km/h and consist of four or six cars with over 300 or 500 seats. The trains have comfortable seating areas, as well as special places for luggage and bicycles which will be expanded according to DB’s standards. The trains are equipped with Wi-Fi and sockets.
