California launches high-speed train procurement procedure

The California High-Speed Rail Authority took its first formal step to procure trains, asking rail manufacturers to submit interest letters for an initial order of up to 95 sets of engines and cars. The trains must be capable of transporting passengers from San Francisco to Los Angeles in less than three hours.
Each train must have a minimum of 450 seats.
Manufacturers will have to specify what depots and workshops will be built to park and maintain trains. Letters could be submitted by 22 October.
