Adif AV awarded a EUR 38 million contract for track installation works on Murcia–Lorca high-speed section, part of the 193 km Murcia–Almería HSR.
The project involves laying track between the end of the Murcia integration section at Nonduermas and Lorca station, a stretch of 57.5 km, through the installation of all necessary components such as rails, ballast, sleepers, and switches. Adif has already contracted the supply of these components for a total value of EUR 97 million. It has also awarded a EUR 26.8 million contract for the construction of the logistics base in Librilla, from where the works will be coordinated. Once the line becomes operational, this facility will be converted into a maintenance facility.
Adif awards the track-laying works while finalising the construction of the platform on which the track will be installed. The platform has already been completed on the Nonduermas–Sangonera subsection, and construction is between 70% and 90% complete on the other three subsections within this first part of the route which includes Sangonera–Totana, Totana–Totana, and Totana–Lorca subsections. This section includes several notable structures, such as the Alhama viaduct and its station, as well as the stations at Totana, Lorca San Diego, and La Hoya.
Murcia–Lorca high-speed section represents the first half of the high-speed route between Murcia and Almería.
At the same time, preparatory works for track installation are also progressing on the second half of the high-speed line, between Lorca and Almería with a length of 138 km. The construction of the logistics facility for this section is currently out to tender, and the project design for the track-laying works is being drafted followed by the launch of the tender.
In addition, initial electrification works are underway, including the construction of the Totana electrical substation and the installation of overhead catenary systems along the first half of the route. In parallel, Adif is also progressing with the electrification project for the second half of the line, between Lorca and Almería, where construction of the track platform is also advancing.
On the Lorca – Almería section, the platform has already been constructed across six subsections and progress is also being made to complete the remaining sections, including the approach to the city of Almería and the section that crosses Lorca. As for the Pulpí–Águilas connection, the final design phase is nearing completion.
