Vossloh wins major contract in Norway

switches and crossings Bane NOR, the rail infrastructure of Norway, awarded Vossloh Nordic Switch Systems AB, the Swedish subsidiary of Vossloh, a framework agreement for the supply of switches and crossings over the coming years.

EUR 80 million is the total value of the contract with an initial term of two years and includes extension options for further six years.

Under the contract, Vossloh will deliver switches and crossings for conventional rail lines as well as the development of a new range of switches for heavy-haul lines. In addition, Bane NOR chose as standard way of delivery the supply of fully assembled switches on special tilting wagons, delivered just-in-time from Vossloh’s Swedish plant.

The contract also includes the supply of an extensive range of spare parts for all existing switches and crossings in the Norwegian network. Deliveries under the framework agreement are scheduled to start this year and run, including options, until 2029.

“Sustainability criteria also played a major role in the awarding of the contract, further evidence of the high importance attached to this issue in our industry. The framework agreement underlines our strong market position in Northern Europe and the close cooperation with Bane NOR also opens up further growth potentials for us. With our globally unique product and service portfolio and the comprehensive systemic understanding of the rail track, we are the perfect partner when it comes to condition-based and predictive maintenance,” Oliver Schuster, the CEO of Vossloh AG said.

To modernise and expand its rail network, Bane NOR is implementing nine major rail projects. They include the construction of new tracks and lines, as well as the modernisation of the existing rail connections to meet future demand and to promote modal shift. The strategy also includes the ERTMS programme under which it will replace its outdated signalling technology with the ERTMS Level 2 Baseline 3. By 2030, the new signalling system will be deployed on the main lines and 550 vehicles of approximately 56 different types will be equipped with the new technology.
