VAE APCAROM bets on quality

With more than 40 years of experience, voestalpine VAE APCAROM from Buzău has constantly strengthened its position on the Romanian market. It is the only company that supplies rail equipment for railway and metro and has always been a reliable partner for trams and companies with in-house industrial lines.

Being part of a high technology group, voestalpine VAE APCAROM has improved its engineering and production systems to reach higher quality and cost-efficiency levels for its products.
During its integration into the VAE Group – voestalpine Railway Systems Division, the company based in Buzău supplied rail switches and spare parts to various foreign markets, such as Croatia, Bosnia, Greece, Slovenia, Austria, Serbia, and Bulgaria. Similarly, in pursuit of its secondary business line, the company VAE APCAROM has delivered coach screws sleeper screws to the Netherlands, Spain, Lithuania, Austria and, Denmark.


For 21 years now, voestalpine VAE Apcarom has been a member of the voestalpine VAE Group, the global leader in integrated rail truck equipment solutions. Innovative drive, detection and locking systems, rolling stock monitoring equipment, added to the assets and a wide range of additional services to complete the product portfolio.
The history of the company headquartered in Buzău goes back to 1972, when Compania de Producție Aparate de Cale (the Rail Equipment Production Company) was established, which was later turned into APCAROM SA in 1991. Four years later, 30% of its share capital was privatized, and the shares of the company were listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

The turning point in the business of the company occurred in 1998 when APCAROM was 100% privatized, VAE AG Austria becoming its main shareholder. The success of the privatization is evidenced by the fact that, in 2003, the quality management system of VAE APCAROM was certified according to ISO 9001:2000 by DQS GmbH.
The same year, DQS GmbH issued to the company an ISO 14001 Certification for its environmental management system. VAE APCAROM also holds a certification from the Romanian Railway Authority (AFER) and the ISIM CERT 792 welding certification (2004). In 2007, an integrated management system was put in place covering: Quality, Environment and Occupational Health&Safety.
According to the Ministry of Public Finance, the net revenues of the company last year amounted to RON 176,338,576 (approximately EUR 37 million). According to the same source, the net profit generated in 2018 was of RON 20,125,321 (around EUR 4.2 million). The company has a subscribed and paid-up capital of RON 12,071,923 (equivalent of EUR 2.5 million), and an average staffing of 334 employees.
