Uzbekistan starts a new rail electrification project

Uzbek President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, approved the measures to commence the implementation of the electrification for Qarshi-Kitob rail section within the launch of high-speed passenger trains. The USD 58.87 million estimated project will be implemented in 2017-2018. Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) will provide USD 18.58 million of its own funds for the project, with UzbekEnergo to invest USD 7.31 million.

About USD 14.06 million will be provided through centralized investments. Uzbekistan Reconstruction and Development Fund will lend USD 18.92 million to Uzbekistan Railways to finance the project.

Designing and construction of external power supply facilities for the project will be financed by UzbekEnergo.

Qarshi-Kitob railway section is part of the Termez -Samarkand- Tashkent rail line, of which, Samarkand – Tashkent route runs on high speed.
