In its 2017-2019 budget, the Governor of Washington Jay Inslee proposed a USD 1 million to fund the feasibility study on high speed railway line between Portland and Vancouver. The study must identify the costs and benefits of a high-speed line along the north-south alignment in Washington state. According to the document, the study must provide an analysis on Vancouver-Portland HSR with an option to connect an east-west alignment in Washington and with a similar system in the state California.
Proponents argued February 1 at a Senate Transportation Committee meeting that the proposed public-private partnership could cut travel times between Vancouver and Seattle down to one hour and reduce traffic congestion on the interstate highways.
