UK: private companies could manage train stations

GlasgowCentralUnder reforms being analysed by the British government, the private sector could end up managing 18 of the UK’s biggest train stations. These include Birmingham New Street and Glasgow Central. According to the national press, the Treasury is the main proponent of divesting Network Rail of diferent activities which could be taken up by the private sector.
Network Rail has been heavily criticised lately, with problems including commuter chaos at London Bridge due to a disruptive station upgrade and heavy fines for missed train punctuality targets as a result of maintenance overruns.
