Turkmenistan international rail traffic increased by 4.3 percent

Turkmenistan railThe volume of cargo transported by all vehicles increased by 10.4 percent in Turkmenistan in January-September 2014, the Turkmen Statistics Committee said.
The growth dynamics in this area is as follows: by vehicles – 4.2 percent , trains – 4.3 percent, airplanes – 27.1 percent and ships – 1.5 percent compared to 2013, according to the report.
Turkmenistan borders with Kazakhstan, Iran, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan onshore and with Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran offshore. The implementation of the regional transport projects has been recently intensified. The Turkmenbashi seaport is expected to be reconstructed. Moreover, a ceremony of commissioning a new railway will be held in the near future.
The project has been implemented upon a trilateral agreement among Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Iran since 2007.
