Turkmenistan: growth in rail freight transport

05-turkmenistanIn 2015, over 22 million tons of cargo were transported via the Turkmen railways, according to data of the Institute for Strategic Planning and Economic Development (ISPED) of Turkmenistan. These figures are higher than in the previous years, announced ISPED. Nearly 67 percent of the freight accounted for transit traffic.
“The active work on modernizing internal steel trunks and technical facilities is carried out as part of Turkmenistan’s Railway Transport Development Program. A railway station was commissioned in Balkanabat city and the construction of Turkmenabat-Farab railway bridge is gaining a high pace,” reported ISPED.
