Turkish company to deliver trams to Poland

The latest Durmazlar tram, unveilled at InnoTrans 2016. Although, this might not be the tram to be delivered in Olsztyn

Durmazlar, one of the Turkish rolling stock manufacturers, was selected to deliver up to 24 trams in Olsztyn, a city in the north-east of Poland. The firm order stipulates the delivery of 12 trams and is valued at PLN 107.9 million (EUR 25 million). The cost of the order could increase up to PLN 206.2 million (EUR 48 million), if Olsztyn authorities decide to extend the initial order up to 24 trams.
The first two trams will be delivered in 21 months after signing the contract, while the rest up to 12 trams will be delivered after another five months.
Trams will be put into operation on the future 6-km extension of the second tram line of the Polish city. This tram line is 11-km long and was inaugurated in 2015. The trams manufactured by Durmazlar will be 2.5-m wide and will be capable to carry 210 passengers, 40 of whom seated. The noise level generated by trams will be of maximum 73.6 dB, which means they will be a lot more silent than the 15 Solaris Tramino trams, currently in operation in Olsztyn.
The authorities are currently carrying out extension works at the first tram line. Works are due in 2019 and, most probably, this new extension will require additional trams.
Durmazlar is based in the Turkish city of Bursa and its subsidiary dealing with the manufacturing of trams and light rail vehicles is called Durmaray. In its home country, Durmazar has delivered rolling stock for the cities of Bursa, Istanbul, Samsun and Izmit.
