Izmit (Kocaeli province in Turkey), a city of more than 300,000 inhabitants, has issued a tender announcement for a contract to build the city’s first light rail line.
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality announced the intention to hold a tender for 12 trams to be used on Sekapark – Otogar tram line. Another tender for the 10km 11-station east-west line was opened in March by the municipality for the construction of Sekapark – Otogar line and is planned to be completed by the end of 2016. The attendees should have a similar experience of being awarded for tram, metro or light rail vehicles before. Local producers will be given a 15% price advantage in tender. Deliveries are expected to start in 12 months and compeleted in 17 months.
The services will be operated by a fleet of 40m-long low-floor LRVs, which will accommodate up to 240 passengers.
