Turkey to soon launch tests on its BTK section

btk3The construction of  Baku –Tbilisi – Kars railway line is drawing to a close. The governor of Kars city, Turkey, has announced that tests of the railway will be implemented in late 2016.
On Turkey’s territory there are 79 km of BTK line, while 58 km accounts for the Kars province. Turkey is also planning to construct a logistics center in the Kars province within the framework of the project. With this purpose, the old building of the railway station is being demolished to make room for the new project.
The BTK railway is being constructed on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. The peak capacity of the railway will be 17 million tons of cargo per year.
In December 2015, Georgia has completed building its section of the USD 600 million Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.
The project to connect Baku in Azerbaijan with Kars, Turkey via Georgia’s capital Tbilisi was launched in 2007 and construction began in 2008.
