Trenitalia direct contract for Pesa

ATR_220_1Pesa Bydgoszcz representatives declared for RailwayPro that negotiations would be held over the next period on the attribution of a direct contract for the supply of new trains to Trenitalia. At the moment, a new ATR 220 DMU is in the final stages of production at Pesa Bydgoszcz factory. The Italian operator ordered another 4 vehicles that was stipulated in the original contract signed by the two companies.
“Over the next period, we will negotiate the direct delivery of the rolling stock to Trenitalia. We hope to come to terms in this negotiation so that we could supply new trains to the Italian market. At the moment, a new ATR 220 is in production at the Bydgoszcz factory and is in the final stage”, declared Liviu Pecican, Western Market Manager.
In addition, Province of Catania, Italy, is interested to directly purchase from Pesa four trains. This project may be implemented under the frame agreement between Pesa and Trenitalia.
At the end of 2013, Pesa and Trenitalia signed the contract on the delivery of 40 trains with an option for 60 more vehicles. The cost of the contract was of EUR 139.6 million. At the moment, there are 41 ATR 220 trains in Italy of which 27 are operated by South East Railways, 12 by Emilia Romagna Railways and 2 by North Milan Railways.
