Trains Have No Boundaries

Far East Land Bridge operates new train route to Budapest

Vienna, June 29th, 2017 – Once again rail operator Far East Land Bridge is breaking ground with a new connection to Budapest, Hungary from Changsha, China. A trial train left Changsha on the 27th of May and is due to arrive in Budapest the 15th of June with a transit time of 20 days.

This marks the first time ever that there has been a direct train option from Changsha to Budapest. Previous solutions included trains to Poland and transit by truck the remainder of the journey. The train option is scheduled to be a regular FCL option in the future for FELB with multiple departures per month.

The route’s speed and ability is due to the train crossing the Chinese border via the Mongolian crossing at Erlian and the Naushki border station to Russia. Then the train follows the Trans-Siberian railway through Ukraine and the border station of Chop/Dobra down to Budapest. The Dobra border to Slovakia is the southeastern gate to Europe and creates many new options for rail travel and is an alternative route to the busy Brest border station.

Included in this route are newer and faster options for connections to Slovakia and Austria as well. The previous solution of trucks via Poland to these locations significantly slowed down transit time. However, with this direct train, cargo transportation is now a great option for companies located in these countries.

Once the trial train reaches Budapest a ceremony will be held to mark this momentous occasion of direct trains to Hungary from China. The route is made possible by collaboration between FELB and the Changsha platform company. If the route proves successful, other Chinese cities have shown interest in future trains to the locations as well.
