Tel Aviv light rail tender could be relaunched

06-tel-avivTel Aviv light rail project manager NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System Ltd. might relaunch the tender for light rail systems, after  the bids received in the first tender exceeded by far the estimated cost. The tender is for planning and constructing civil infrastructure such as rails and electrical systems, and signaling systems for controlling all train movements, plus ticketing, fare collection, PA, and information systems for passengers.
The value of the tender was estimated at NIS 2.5 billion (EUR 612 million). The bids submitted were of NIS 4 billion (EUR 979 million) and NIS 5.5 billion (EUR 1.3 billion). If the two bidders do not agree to bring their bids close to the estimates, the NTA will not be able to avoid cancelling the tender. The new tender could be split into two, with the first including rail line infrastructure and electrical cabling, and the second – installing and managing the signaling systems and the other computerized systems.
