Sweden: Mälarbanan upgrading contract awarded

Mälarbanan_Stäketbron_2009Trafikverket, Sweden, has awarded Skanska a SEK 400 million (EUR 43 million) contract to quadruple Mälarbanan north of Stockholm rail section.
Works on a 3 km section which will start this year involves the laying of two additional tracks on the Stockholm – Västerås double-track section, between Spånga and Barkarby and the provision of an additional station platform.
The project will be completed in 2019 and is part of the SEK 13.9 billion (EUR 1.5 billion) project to quadruple the Tomteboda- Kallhäll line which started in 2012 and is due to be completed by 2025.
