citybanan-stockholm_stockholmcitybananstationrendering-ahlqvistalmqvistabTrafikverket, the Swedish infrastructure manager, announced on November 3 that the Stockholm City Line will open in July  2017, doubling the main line rail capacity through the centre of the city.

The SEK 16.8 billion (EUR 1.8 billion) Stockholm City Line is being built by the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket, in close co-operation with the City of Stockholm, Stockholm County Council and Stockholm Transport, SL.

Stockholm City Line (Citybanan) is a 6 km-long commuter train tunnel running between Tomteboda and Stockholm South, with two new stations at Odenplan and T-Centralen.

The Citybanan enables long-distance trains and commuter trains to take different routes through the city of Stockholm. Commuter trains will run on the Citybanan beneath the city, while long-distance trains will run above ground through the Central Bridge before reaching Stockholm Central.
