Stadler wins Tyne and Wear metro contract

Nexus, Newcastle-based transport operator, selected Stadler for the supply of 42 metro trains which will operate Tyne and Wear metro network in North East of England. Under the contract, Stadler will also provide maintenance services for up to 35 years and will construct a new maintenance depot at the existing site in Gosforth, Newcastle.

The total value of the contract is GBP 700 million (EUR 830.66 million).

Nexus will take into account an order for additional metro trains.

The contract will be signed after a ten-day objection period.

The new metro trains will replace the existing vehicles between 2022 and 2024.

In June, CAF, Hitachi Rail and Stadler were announced as the shortlisted companies to submit their offer.
