South Australia: Integrated road and rail service to set up at Leigh Creek

leighcreekSouth Australian Government awarded Bowmans Rail a USD 200,000 grant to establish the intermodal container terminal, just outside of the Leigh Creek township.
The facility will use the existing rail infrastructure between Port Augusta and Leigh Creek to transfer imported and domestic freight from Adelaide to Leigh Creek. It will then transfer the inbound freight by road to the Cooper Basin.
The intermodal will also provide an option for back-loading minerals for the emerging mining industry in Leigh Creek.
The grant is part of the USD 2 million Upper Spencer Gulf and Outback Futures Program which opened in November last year in recognition of the challenges brought about by the downturn of the resources sector and the closure of the Port Augusta power station and Leigh Creek coal mine.
Bowmans Rail is a South Australian intermodal rail and container terminal operations company servicing the resource and agricultural sectors in South Australia.
