SNCF to tender TGV Wi-Fi contracts in February

WiFi_SNCF_sncfFrench digital secretary for the digital economy Axelle Lemaire announced that national railway operator SNCF will open a tender at the start of February for the installation of Wi-Fi in its TGV high-speed trains, France Inter radio writes. Lemaire said that, personally, she hoped it customers would not have to pay extra for the service.
SNCF wrote on its website early in 2014 that it would cost some EUR 350,000 for each of the 450 TGV trains currently in service.
It is thought the deployment would take 3 years and would be undertaken in partnership with mobile operators. Currently, only one TGV line offers Wi-Fi, between Paris, Strasbourg, Zurich, Stuttgart and Munich, for a price of EUR 4.99 per hour.
