Siemens is ready to bid for high-speed train tender in Turkey

Der Hochgeschwindigkeitszug Velaro für die Türkei / The High-Speed train Velaro for TurkeySiemens Transport division CEO Cüneyt Genç said the company was eager to bid for the 80 high speed-train purchase tenders from the Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communication in mid-2016. „We are eager to bid, and we are currently evaluating (the tenders),” Genç said. Any companies that want to bid must find a local partner and make the production in a facility established in Turkey.
“We are in the assessment process in finding a local partner,” Genç told Reuters. The Turkish State Railways (TCDD) bought a total of seven high speed rail sets from Siemens in 2013. The company, which submitted one of these sets, plans to deliver the others this year.
Siemens has been establishing a tramway factory in the northwestern district of Gebze for a EUR 30 million investment. The facility is planned to open by the end of 2017.

Siemens partnered with Bursa-based company Durmazlar for the manufacturing of SilkWorm tramway, which currently runs in Bursa city.
Three companies have so far announced that they would bid for the high speed train future tender: Patentes Talgo plans to bid with Turkey’s Tümosan, Bombardier with Turkey’s Bozankaya while Alstom has not named its local partner yet.
