SBB and SWISS expand Air Rail offer from Geneva Airport

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) is expanding its intermodal SWISS Air Rail service from Geneva Airport together with SBB. Thanks to the connection to the SWISS route network of Vevey, Montreux, Sion, Sierre, Visp and Brig, international customers can conveniently travel on to popular holiday resorts in the Valais such as Crans Montana, Verbier, Zermatt or Saas Fee. The new routes can be booked for travel from June 11, 2024.

“The successful strategic partnership with SBB offers great added value for our passengers and I am delighted that we can now offer them further attractive connections within Switzerland. This intelligent combination of rail and air traffic enables a seamless and therefore more relaxed travel experience” – Heike Birlenbach, Chief Commercial Officer of SWISS.

Flexible travel planning

SWISS Air Rail can be booked in conjunction with a SWISS flight at or in any travel agency. Customers can select one of the available train stations as the departure or arrival point and thus book their train and flight journey in one step.

Passengers only need to check in once and receive all boarding passes directly from SWISS. They also have the option of using the train ticket one day before departure or one day after arrival, making their journey even more flexible.

As with all SWISS Air Rail routes, SWISS offers its passengers a connection guarantee in the event of delays. Miles & More members also collect miles and points with a SWISS Air Rail ticket.

The number of points depends on the connecting flight and flight class. SWISS First and SWISS Business guests also travel in 1st class.

“The expansion of the SWISS Air Rail offering to include destinations in Vaud and Valais is a good example of customer-oriented multimodal mobility – with benefits for customers. Together with SWISS, we are building another bridge between air and rail transport and enabling our customers to get from the airport to the mountains easily and comfortably. Together, we are encouraging people to board” – Véronique Stephan, member of the Executive Board and Head of the Passenger Transport Market at SBB.

SWISS Air Rail includes 17 destinations

With this further expansion of the intermodal offering, the SWISS Air Rail network now includes a total of 17 destinations. Geneva Cornavin (main station), Freiburg, Bern, Interlaken, Lausanne, Lucerne, Lugano, Bellinzona and Basel in Switzerland as well as Munich in Germany and Bregenz in Austria are already served.

In order to further optimise the connection between rail and air, SWISS and SBB are continuously working on expanding their joint service and product portfolio.

In addition to optimally connecting additional, particularly tourist locations, to SWISS’s global route network, the focus is also on direct connections without changing trains and optimising customer service in the event of operational irregularities.
