Saudi Railway Company (SAR) started operating its first scheduled passenger service on the 1250-km line linking Riyadh and Al Qassim.
In the first phase of the project, SAR will deliver five-times services per week, and in April, the company will offer daily trips.
“The new project is the biggest in the Middle East and a key component in transporting citizens and residents between cities and regions of the Kingdom,” Rimaih Al-Rimaih, head of public transport and supervisor at SAR said.
for transport development, the railway line will eventually connect the capital city of Riyadh with Al-Haditha land port at the Saudi-Jordanian border and will be linked with the Riyadh-Dammam railway line.
SAR will operate six railway cars, but will begin with two in the first stage to transport a maximum of 444 passengers in one journey.
