Russian Railways and Akron invest USD 14.6 million in rail reconstruction

akronRussian Railways and Akron are jointly implementing a project to reconstruct the railway infrastructure of the station at Siding 64 km on October Railways.
The two companies are each paying half of the project cost of about RUB 1 billion (USD 14.6 million).
Scheduled for completion in 2016, the project will increase the processing capacity of the railway station at Siding 64 km by one and a half times to more than 6 million tons per annum. This will allow Akron to increase significantly its shipments of manufactured products. At the moment, 96% of the production from its plant in Veliky Novgorod is shipped by rail. The Company’s shipping volumes are increasing annually by 5-7%.
The project was implemented in two phases. In the first phase, switching points were automated and connected to the microprocessor centralisation of switches and signals, and switches were equipped with pneumatic equipment and electric heating. Also built were an electric centralisation post, combined with the administrative and domestic buildings, as well as a combined heat point for wagon inspectors and track repair fitters.
During the second stage, two additional receiving and departure tracks were laid and the four existing tracks extended to a useful length of 1,050 metres and the electrification and connection of switches to the new equipment at the station’s electric centralisation. In addition, a turnout track was constructed at the station’s even and odd leads with the possibility of arriving from it at all the station’s receiving and departure tracks.
All the major construction and installation work on the project has been completed.
