Russia: USD 175.7 million for the new railway line bypassing Ukraine

Russia rail bypass UkraineFor the new twin-track 140-km electrified section which will be built on the territory of Russia and connect Zhuravka station in Voronezh Oblast and Millerovo station in Rostov Oblast, the Russian government has allocated 7 billion roubles (USD 175.7 million) from the federal budget in 2015. These funds are directed to continue the design and survey work and begin the construction of the line, that is scheduled to be commissioned by 2018.
Oleg Toni, Vice-President of RZD, stressed that the course of the construction work would be supervised by the staff set up at Russian Railways which is responsible for the creation and project development of particularly important state objects, so the solutions to the two main objectives – meeting the deadline and keeping within budget – are mandatory for everyone involved in the construction.
The project has received support from the regional governments of Voronezh and Rostov Oblasts and is now at the approval stage.
