It will intersect with Tram Line 5 in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele near Termini Station and then the new line will head to west of Rome to Largo Corrado Ricci near the Colosseum. The construction works will begin in May 2019. The line should be ready for commercial operation in 2020. The project amounts to EUR 20 million, the municipality of Rome has already secured EUR 5 million while the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will allocate the remaining EUR 15 million. The travel distance between the trams will be 8 minutes and the municipality assesses that  the new service will provide transport to 30,000 passengers daily. The new tram line will serve four stations. A second stage involves extending the tram line to Piazza Venezia. „We have also decided to launch a design contest to refurbish the entire area that will be affected by the tram line,” says the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.
