Romania’s CEF rail transport calls

zf3“Within 2014 CEF calls, for Romania, 10 proposals were selected, of which 4 are Romanian proposals and 6 are the EU’s proposals, with the participation of Romanian beneficiaries. The awarded CEF funding was EUR 708.17 million, of which EUR 687.64 million is the funding for railway projects. The 2015 CEF Calls, included 11 selected proposals, 7 coming from Romanian side and 4 from the EU. The recommended CEF funding [that is on pending signature of the grant agreements] is EUR 519.3 million, of which, EUR 441 million are for railway projects,” Stéphane Ouaki, Head of Unit, Connecting Europe, Infrastructure Investment Strategies, EC, said, during the Railway PRO Investment Summit, organised by Railway PRO, Club Feroviar and Romania Railway Industry Association.
In this context, Romania has 3 underway rail projects on Rhine-Danube and Orient/East-Med Core Network Corridors and for other 2 projects the signature of the grant agreement is on pending.

The underway projects are:

-The rehabilitation of the Brasov-Simeria line component of the Rhine-Danube Corridor for maximum speed of 160 km/h; Section: Brasov-Sighisoara -Sub-sections Brasov-Apata, Cata-Sighisoara. The project involves the upgrading of sub-sections Brasov-Apata (38 km) and Cata-Sighisoara (47 km); the estimated total action costs is EUR 797.3 million, with a 85% EU contribution (EUR 677.7 million). The project should be completed by the end of 2020.
-The feasibility study for rehabilitation of the Craiova –Drobeta-Turnu Severin –Caransebes railway line with a total estimated costs of EUR 9.9 million, with a EUR 8.4 million EU contribution (85%).
-The revision of the feasibility study for rehabilitation of Craiova-Calafat railway line. The total estimated cost is EUR 1.7 million, with an EU contribution of EUR 1.47 million.

Pending signature of the grant agreement (projects):

-The rehabilitation of the Brasov-Sighisoara railway section, sub-section Apața-Cața; the costs are estimated at EUR 538.3 million, of which EU’s contribution is EUR 44 million. The project involves the upgrading the sub-section Apața-Cata and reduction of sub-section length to 28.20 km (from 43.95 km). The project should start this November and is scheduled for the completion in December 2020.
– Telematic applications for freight service (TAF) Implementation in Romania. The project is estimated at EUR 1.34 million, of which EU’s contribution is more than EUR 1 million (76.54%). The project should start in November 2016 and will be completed by June 2019. The scope of the project is the development of telematics solution able to implement the whole set of messages defined in the TAF-TSI Regulation.
