Romania, new Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of CIG TRACECA

traceca_logoDuring the 11th Annual Conference of TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission (CIG TRACECA), Romania was appointed the Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of CIG TRACECA for a period of two years. Of the five candidatures, proposed by Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, Mircea Ciopraga was appointed Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of CIG TRACECA. The Secretary General is the executive officer with the highest rank within the TRACECA Commission with a 2-year mandate that can be extended by 2 to 3 years.
The Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission ensures the current/secretariat activity of this commission, it is a legal entity and is based in Baku (Azerbaijan). The conference took place on 29 January 2015 in Istanbul. Turkey took over the current presidency of this structure from Tajikistan.
Representatives of the Ministries of Transport from the 13 countries of the TRACECA area participated in the CIG TRACECA Conference: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Uzbekistan and the representative of DG NEAR within the European Commission, Stefaan Bil.
Two observatory countries also attended the conference on Thursday, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
TRACECA is a programme of the European Union on technical assistance in transport, created in 1993 and dedicated to the financing of projects on the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor.
