Poland redevelops three more stations under CEF funding

The rail infrastructure manager, PKP PLK, and Polish company Trakcja PRKiI, signed a PLN 417 million (EUR 97.8 million) contract for the comprehensive redevelopment of three stations on Siedlce – Terespol rail section, as part of E20 main line. The contract provides for the modernization of the Terespol, Małaszewicze and Biała Podlaska stations, which will cover nearly 49 km of tracks, 68 km of overhead lines and 8 platforms to be reconstructed. The facilities will be equipped with street furniture elements and a passenger information system. At the same time, the whole infrastructure will be adapted to the needs of people with reduced mobility.
“The agreemetn signed is another example of efficient implementation of the National Railway Programme. This will allow trains to run at speeds of 160 km/h, on the whole route from Warsaw, through Siedlce to the border of Terespol. It will shorten the travel time and improve passenger comfort on the final stretch of this route,” said the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Andrzej Bittel.
In addition, several new engineering facilities will be built, e.g. the railway crossing along Lubelska and Witoroska streets in Biala Podlaska will be replaced by a two-lane road tunnel along with a pedestrian walkway. The pedestrian bridge at the Biała Podlaska station will be replaced by an underground passage, while the existing underground passage at the Terespol station will be renovated and equipped with elevators.
The contract also includes the construction of new buildings for the control of railway traffic in Biała Podlaska, Małaszewicze, Chotyłów and level crossing gatehouses in Terespol and Kobylany.
The planned duration of the project is 36 months from the date of conclusion of the contract.
The project’s value is PLN 417.6 million (EUR 97.9 million), of which PLN 355 million (EUR 83.2 million) is provided under the Connecting Europe Facility.
