Poland completes the first CEF project

pkp plkPolish Railways finalised the project on the improvement of safety on Central Railway through the elimination of level crossings at km 127 and 147 and the construction of interchanges duplex. This is the first completed project in Europe with funding under the Connecting Europe Facility. The total value of the project was PLN 17.5 million (EUR 3.98 million) of which EU allotted financing of a PLN 14.9 million (EUR 3.4 million). The project involved the elimination of some rail crossings and the construction of road overpasses.
The investment is part of the E65 line modernisation project, a section of the Baltic-Adriatic corridor.  PLK planned work at the intersection of Central Railway (line 4 Grodzisk Mazowiecki – Zawiercie) extending through southern Poland.
The CEF allotted fund has been earmarked to the construction of flyovers on the Central Trunk Railway (Line 4), which allowed for an increase in speed above 160 km/h on the sections of this line and a further reduction of travel time from Warsaw, among others, to Krakow and Katowice.
Under the CEF financing, Poland will receive a EUR 4.14 billion for transport investments. Until now, Poland received a EUR 1.94 billion CEF investment for the implementation of 17 projects, included the PKP’s completed project.
